Nifty at 22497, Oil and Gas Top Performer

The Indian stock market experienced a volatile session on March 11, 2025, with mixed trends across major indices. While Sensex ended almost flat with a minor loss of 12.85 points or 0.02%, closing at 74,102.32, the Nifty 50 managed to gain 37.60 points or 0.17%, settling at 22,497.90.

The market opened on a negative note following weak global cues and was significantly dragged down by banking stocks, especially IndusInd Bank, which witnessed a sharp 10% fall during the opening trade. However, a strong mid-session recovery in select stocks helped the market to close with marginal gains.

Market Performance Overview

  • Sensex: Down 12.85 points or 0.02% at 74,102.32.
  • Nifty 50: Up 37.60 points or 0.17% at 22,497.90.

The initial market slump was attributed to selling pressure in banking stocks, which was later offset by gains in metal, realty, telecom, and oil & gas stocks.

Nifty Today

The Nifty 50 index closed the trading session on a positive note despite starting the day with heavy losses. The index opened below 22,350, driven by weak global cues and heavy sell-off in banking stocks, especially IndusInd Bank, which fell by 10% in early trade. However, strong buying in metal, telecom, and oil & gas stocks helped the index recover from its intraday lows.

At close, the Nifty 50 settled at 22,497.90, gaining 37.60 points or 0.17%. The market remained volatile throughout the day but managed to hold its ground, thanks to sectoral strength in metals and oil & gas stocks.

Nifty Bank

The Nifty Bank index faced a sharp decline in today’s trading session, closing at 47,853.95, down by 362.85 points or 0.75%. The index opened at 47,874.80 and touched an intraday high of 48,029.05, but intense selling pressure in banking stocks, particularly IndusInd Bank, led the index to slip to a low of 47,702.90.

The major trigger for the decline was IndusInd Bank’s 10% fall in the morning trade, driven by weak sentiment after negative global cues. Other leading private and public sector banks also witnessed profit-booking, contributing to the index’s downward movement.

Sector-Wise Market Performance

The Indian stock market witnessed mixed performance across sectoral indices on March 11, 2025. While sectors like Nifty Bank, Auto, IT, and Media faced selling pressure, Realty, Metal, Pharma, and Financial Services provided some support to the market.

The Nifty Bank index was the top loser, falling by 0.75% to close at 47,853.95, dragged down mainly by IndusInd Bank’s sharp 10% fall and weak sentiment in the banking sector. On the flip side, Nifty Realty emerged as the top gainer, jumping 3.63% driven by positive buying in real estate stocks.
