Sensex & Nifty end slightly higher for the third week in a row

The stock market ended Friday with small gains. The Sensex went up by 260 points to 80,502, and the Nifty added 13 points to close at 24,347. However, midcap stocks didn’t do well—the Midcap Index fell by 420 points (down 1%).

Here are some key highlights 2nd May Market :

  • Nifty Auto fell after weak April sales. Bajaj Auto and Eicher Motors dropped 2%.
  • JSW Steel lost 6% after the Supreme Court rejected BPSL’s resolution plan.
  • RailTel jumped nearly 7% after reporting a 46% profit rise in Q4.
  • Indus Towers fell 7% after delaying bonus and buyback announcements.
  • Phoenix Mills dropped over 7%, and Federal Bank fell 4%—both missed Q4 expectations.
  • Godrej Properties gave a mixed forecast for FY26, but the stock rose 4%.
  • IOC gained 4% after strong Q4 results.
  • Sona BLW said only 3% of its revenue is affected by US tariffs—stock rose 3%.
  • Zomato (now Eternal) ended 1% higher despite a weak Q4.
  • SBI gained 1%, while Kotak Mahindra Bank slipped 1% ahead of its Saturday results.

Market activity was balanced, with as many stocks falling as rising. Foreign investors have been buying consistently, pouring in around ₹37,400 crore since April 15.

On the global front, India and the US are making progress on a trade deal. US President Trump hinted this week that both countries are close to finalizing a tariff agreement, which is helping boost investor confidence in Indian markets.
